      +Bigdrop dA Obviously do contract the biceps to some extent, however not
      NEARLY as much as you would be keeping your elbows locked in one position.
      If you don’t lock your elbows in, a lot of the work will transfer to the
      front delts, and the momentum will essentially lower the amount of weight
      placed on your biceps. This results in a far lower rate of micro tearing of
      your muscle fibers. This applies to every muscle in every exercise. This is
      also why bodybuilders can lift far lower weights and still grow way more
      than other people.
