Home Workout: Barbell Rows for Lats

I know I promised an advanced pushup video next, its halfway done – filming the video wiped me out with all the retakes so I couldnt finish it in one session.

This video shows how to do barbell rows. Dont attempt these if you have lower back problems, stick to the pullups. While we are on the subject of pullups, these barbell rows are no substitute for pullups. When it comes to building lats, pullups are king!

Keys to good form on the barbell row:

1) keep your back motionless
2) keep your abs flexed and tight to support your lower back
3) make sure to breathe, dont hold your breath
4) pull the bar to your hip, not your shoulders
5) use a slow, smooth motion – no jerking

By the way, I know I screwed up twice and said "dumbbell row" where I meant "barbell row". I didnt bother re-filming becuase I figured it wouldnt cause any confusion.

Anyone can be healthier, have more energy, sleep better, and feel better about themselves through bodybuilding. Bodybuilding doesn't have to be expensive or take a lot of time, gyms are great but home workouts can save you time and money. A cheap dumbbell set from a garage sale or walmart is all it takes to get started with your home workouts.

I have a pull up bar, but the doors in my house will not take them. Will
these Barbell Rows be enough if I keep doing them to get me some wide and
    stronger lats?

Scooby…I weigh too much to do pull-ups. Right now I am doing machine pull
downs until I get my weight down and strength up. I have a moderately
messed up low back, so rows are out. I’m screwed right?

How do you explain the fact the Ronnie Coleman and many other pros always
swing the bar like at 2:00?

Scooby, question, can you work Lats with this exercise by using two
dumbbells instead of one barbell? I tried it and managed to maintain a
proper form while attempting this exercise and i kept the dumbells aligned
to each other. (not the metal ones, the ones with the black casing on each
end), does that still serve the same purpose as long as the form is proper?
Or if anyone can answer idk

+Nathaniel Butler Put simply, yes. It doesn’t matter if you’re using a
barbell, or two dumbbells; you’re still working the lats to pull the weight
      up to you.

      Thank you!

I use dumbbells for this exercise. I row with my left, resting my right
knee and right hand on a bench. Reverse for rowing the right side. Reason:
I feel far more strain in my lower back than I do in the muscles I’m
actually supposed to be working. At 53 and not in anywhere near the shape
Scoob is in, I’m just asking for back trouble if I row two dumbbells at a
    time.

He covered dumbell rows in a different video. He’s covered the way you do
      it already.
