Mass Builder – Barbell Curls

Barbell curls are a great mass builder for the arms. Its a seemingly simple exercise but you have to use the right form if you want your arms to get bigger and stronger because its easy to cheat on this exercise.

scooby I have a supercurl bar and a arm blaster. will that work.

  8. Jordan TheMan / January 21, 2016

Full contraction of the inner biceps can only be achieved with a straight
bar simply because of the biomechanics of the exercise. Note I used a fancy
word so you know its credible. Also, you absolutely CAN do cheat curls
where you bend over and back up until your back is perpendicular to the
ground. It allows you to just barely complete your next rep (with proper
    form) when you otherwise couldn’t.

    • Furious Mat / February 4, 2016

+Jordan TheMan well cheating on the very last rep can be acceptable but if
you have to do it for every rep it just means that the weight is too heavy.
And it also depends how much you cheat. As he pointed out you might get
yourself a lower back injury. Especially considering that the weight might
be too heavy and that those who tend to do this are beginners, who often
rush on the arms jack and neglect to work their core.

That’s why I prefer going with a partner. That moment when you’d start
cheating, instead you keep good form and your partner helps you get to the
      finish line.

I’ve found if you concentrate on keeping your chest up it is easier to
    avoid leaning back without noticing.

If you do these curls with your back up against a wall then you can see
exactly how improper your form really is. Just don’t use the wall for
    support,lol.

  18. empiremack James / May 16, 2016

Your technic is wrong. You should never let the curl bar go down that low.
It’s called “resting” and it’s totally unnecessary. End the curl upper mid
way to let “the bicep” do the work.

  19. kstromalmighty / May 25, 2016

scooby in Arnolds encyclopedia of he includes cheat curls for building
bigger bis what’s your opinion on this? personally I’ve had great results
    when doing them properly

  20. Dr. Psycho / July 22, 2016

I read that cheat curls are useful in some cases to overload the muscle

    • Kyle Jeffrey / August 6, 2016

Yeah Simeon Panda did a video on this. He said if a little compromise in
form pushes you that extra bit further, don’t worry about it – as long as
you’re not completely all over the place!

    • Dr. Psycho / August 6, 2016

+Kyle Jeffrey Simeon Panda is on gear, He builds muscle while watching tv
      and eating popcorn
