You use a barbell instead of dumbells because how else are you supposed to
do barbell flies? It ain’t a session until one of your ribs goes.

  2. Wounded Slug / September 11, 2015

2:01 “I just don’t have that many dumbbells” directly after he shows us a
    whole gyms worth of dumbbells…

      +Pain lbs, 1kg = 2.2 lbs

    • Neenjah Rammus / May 31, 2016

Yeah that’s about the same set of dumbbells a typical commercial gym would
have, but Elliot deadlifts 600+ lbs.. so for him training with 90lbs or
less on a dumbbell is little more than the start to a warmup.
Gyms that actually have a lot of dumbbells have them going up to like
300..350.. some might go heavier. (I don’t mean “have a lot of dumbbells”
in the sense of having 10x sets of 20lb, 10x 30lb, etc.)

      +Neenjah Rammus Deadlifting with dumbells_

    • Neenjah Rammus / May 31, 2016

+I love Motörhead I didn’t say he deadlifts with dumbbells.. I said how
much he deadlifts as a measure of his strength..

    • I love Motörhead / May 31, 2016

+Neenjah Rammus I never said you said that! I said that.

Man, I really need to find a back alley gym like this…

  4. Aaron Hartje / December 14, 2015

I’ve found barbells to generally be more cost-effective if you don’t mind
changing weight fairly often. Dumbbells are nice, but even used you’re
still going to spend about 70 cents a pound for them.

  5. Gara Von Hoiwkenzoiber / December 15, 2015

I like barbells better because when I’m lifting a ton of weight on one side
only, it’s easy to become unbalanced.

A nicely loaded barbell keeps your center of mass in the middle.

  6. Alejandro Loza / January 23, 2016

I prefer dumbbells. I have been able to activate my chest better and
develop it more faster in two months than a year of barbell bench press.

    • Spirali / February 2, 2016

+Alejandro Loza yeah dumbbels are better for isolating muscles, whereas
barbells you can lift more and have balance. I can activate my chest and
      lats way easier with dumbbels.

So…did I miss the answer to why he uses barbells not dumbbells or did he
just not actually answer the question? Except for him starting out with a
barbell at the age of 14.

    • Ghostflame92 / March 6, 2016

+Alaaddin van dam Al shwazernaggah yeah thats what i assumed. thanks!

    • J. Smith / March 7, 2016

+SSGhostFlame Perhaps the reason is he doesn’t want to waste time giving
people dumbbell recommendations on which to buy.

    • Alekeser / March 26, 2016

The dumbbells he has aren’t heavy enough and are a bit beat up and since he
started with barbells from a young age he’s grown accustomed to them

    • MItchell Newton / May 31, 2016

There is no good reason to use barbell over dumbbell he would just be wrong

  8. SVTcoolguy / February 28, 2016

“Planet Fitness style dumbbells, not very heavy” (sees the 90s, looks at my
    50s, cries)

  9. Ibiza Luxury Villas / April 7, 2016

Elliot! I live in a gangster town. I am afraid to go walking outside or
running because of the neighborhood is dangerous. What do I do? I can’t pay
    for gym memberships

    Eliot
Just a quicm one. Kettle bells, is there any benjfit of using kettlebells
or dumbells barbells or do they do the same thjng in a different way.
Any advice is usefull and apreciated.

    • Clever Cypriot / August 5, 2016

      In essence:
      Kettlebells = More Functional
      Dumbbells = More Balanced
Barbells = Allow you to lift heavier

  17. Kurt Steiner / July 24, 2016

blue devel eyes. i am from england. but if you have a problem in your area.
try martial arts or boxing or simular. i do weight training for other
reasons like scuba diving to handle the weight. and martial arts its very
popular here. i do ninpo traditional japaneese martial arts. sometimes
called ninjutsu. but there are others like karate kungfu judo etc.

  18. Anti clickbait / August 3, 2016
